With all regional tournaments now complete, everyone now turns their attention to the 2013 Little League World Series! All regions have chosen a team to represent them in the Series, which begins on Thursday, August 15th in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

Over the past week, all United States regions and the Canadian region held tournaments to determine who would represent the regions at the Little League World Series. The regional tournaments invited top teams in the area to compete against each other in a pool-play, single-elimination style tourney. Each tourney came down to a championship game, and the winner of that game progressed to the Series.

Here are the 2013 Little League regional tournament champions:

Great Lakes – Grosse Pointe, Michigan
Midwest – Urbandale, Iowa
Mid-Atlantic – Newark, Delaware
New England – Westport, Connecticut
Northwest – Sammamish, Washington
Southeast – Nashville, Tennessee
Southwest – Corpus Christi, Texas
West – Chula Vista, California
Canada – Ottawa, Ontario

Some highlights from the regional tournaments:

Mid-Atlantic

Newark, Delaware defeated Lionville, Pennsylvania 8-2 to become only the second team from Delaware to make it to the Series. Over the 4 pool-play games, Delaware scored a total of 38 runs. They will definitely be a tough opponent in the Series!

West

In a California state rivalry, Chula Vista defeated Belmont to take the title. With the most World Series wins in the United States, this year is the 45th time a Californian team heads to the Series. Chula Vista looks to continue that success in 2013, and with 44 points scored over 4 games, they will definitely be contenders for the title in the Series.

New England

Westport, Connecticut defeated Lincoln, Rhode Island 1-0 in a pitchers’ duel. The pitcher for Connecticut, Chad Knight, recorded 14 of the team’s 18 outs with strikeouts. He gave up only one hit to Lincoln during the entire championship game. It will be interesting to see them matched up against a team with a powerful offense during the Series.

Great Lakes

Grosse Pointe, Michigan dominated Chicago on the shoulders of pitcher Chad Lorkowski. At 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, he makes quite an intimidating sight on the field. He struck out ten, and hit two home runs during the game to help Michigan claim a 10-3 win. This is the first Michigan team to make the Series since 1998. We are looking forward to seeing this team in action in the Series!

Southeast

Nashville came out on top of a close game between them and Tuckahoe, Virginia. A team from Tennessee made it to the title game last year, and Nashville is looking to repeat that success. Nashville hasn’t made it to the Series since all the way back in 1970.

All regional champions are on their way to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, and the Series begins on Thursday, August 15th. Pre-game activities, including a parade for the participating teams, begin on Wednesday, August 14th.
