Who doesn't love a good scary movie? We're in for a real treat this month here in Ocala! The Marion Theatre, a local historic landmark is hosting an event called "31 Nights of Halloween," showing a different classic horror movie almost every night of the month!

The Marion Theatre first opened its doors in 1941, and was the first movie theater in Ocala with air conditioning. It closed in the mid-1970s. The building reopened in 1992 as the Discovery Science Center, a children's learning center. The Science Center closed in 2002, and the Marion Film and Visual Arts Foundation restored it as a movie theater once again. While ownership of the Marion Theatre has changed hands several times in its history, it finally seems as if the theater is on stable ground once again.

Justin MacDonald, our Operations Manager, is heavily involved with the Marion Theatre, participating in multiple events to help the theater and the downtown arts scene. Earlier this year, we provided wristbands for the Marion Theatre's premiere of and celebratory block party for the Disney film "Planes."

In October, the Marion Theatre is hosting "31 Nights of Halloween." They will be showing nightly screenings of horror classics both old and new, including "The Creature from the Black Lagoon" (filmed here in Ocala at Silver Springs), "Carrie" (starring Ocala-area resident John Travolta), "Psycho", "The Shining", and many other iconic horror films. While it's true there are only 29 films, that's because the theater is booked for private parties on two nights. But they're right — there still are 31 nights in the month!

TJM Promotions is very excited to see such an awesome event here, and we're rooting for the revitalized Marion Theatre. Events such as this are sure to be crowd-pleasing, and even though we're only a day into October, it's already turning out to be a popular attraction. We wish the Marion Theatre the best of luck, and hope to see more events like this for Ocala in the future. Keep an eye out for us at the theater. We'll definitely be there!
