Patches for the Blackfeet Nation

Rick Cundiff

With more than 17,000 members, the Blackfeet Nation is one of the 10 largest Native American tribes in the United States. Established in 1855, it’s located in northwest Montana.

The tribe’s Land Enforcement Officers play a vital role in maintaining order and resolving land disputes. When David Spotted Eagle was shopping for custom patches for Land Enforcement uniforms, he came across our Patches4Less.com division. Our pricing won him over.

“I just price checked a couple of patch businesses and yours had the best quote,” he said.

The officers who wear the patch have great responsibility. The Blackfeet reservation covers 1.5 million acres, bordered to the west by Glacier National Park, and to the north by Canada.

“The Land Enforcement Officer is responsible for conflict management related to trespass and boundary issues,” Spotted Eagle explained. “This includes conducting investigations, facilitating negotiations, and providing mediation services to parties involved in land disputes.”

Officers also are responsible for documentation and record keeping related to land disputes and assisting in the development and implementation of land management strategies. They also may be required to provide expert testimony and to collaborate with tribal legal counsel on land-related matters.

Land Enforcement Officers must meet rigorous standards for the position, Spotted Eagle noted. Those include:

  • Federal or State of Montana Peace Officer Standards and Training certification.
  •  Five years of progressive experience in land dispute resolution or related fields
  • Ability to become a state-certified livestock inspector
  • An extensive background check

The patch design features the seal of the Blackfeet Nation on a seven-point law enforcement star.

“The seal's design incorporates a circle of eagle feathers around a representation of the Blackfeet's current land base, symbolizing the cycle of life and the strength and majesty of the eagle,” Spotted Eagle explained.

Because he had never purchased from us before, he didn’t know what to expect in terms of quality of our patches. Through regular communication with our patch team, he clearly expressed his expectations for the patches. When he received the patches, he found we lived up to them.

“The quality of work put into the patch is very exceptional and I intend to make further purchases from this company in the future,” he said.

Thank you David for the vote of confidence. We appreciate your business and look forward to continuing to serve the Blackfeet Nation for future orders.
