Get to Know TJM: Our Favorite Condiments!

In honor of September being National Condiment Month, we challenged our TJMers to name their favorite.  Here’s what we had to say:

Worcestershire sauce, I love putting this on everything. Lol.

I go by the big three: Mustard, Ketchup, Mayo.  

Mustard is the clear winner for me. Hands down. I HATE mayo and don’t even like typing its full government name. Ketchup is moderately tolerable when mixed with mustard for a very few items, but it is otherwise sugar tomato paste. I eat mustard with my French fries, hot dog, tuna and chicken salad, etc.

Hot sauces are in their own category and I tend to love almost all of them. A little too much. I have different hot sauces for different dishes… as any cultured person should. 

I’m so out of the loop on mayo that it has caused issues. At one event at our house, that had my extended family there, I was asked me to purchase some mayo while I was in the store. I bought whatever was BOGO and brought that home. Turns out, I double messed up, because I grabbed Miracle Whip (x2), which is apparently a cardinal sin for mayo lovers. It’s all gross to me, so how was I to know?

[Editor’s Note: No, Justin, buying (shudder) Miracle Whip (twice!) is NOT a “double” mess-up. That is an EXPONENTIAL mess-up … as any cultured person should know!]

Homemade pepper sauce is my favorite, but ketchup is a close second! Even better? Mix them together – spicy + sweet makes the perfect combo!

I’m old enough to remember when ketchup sometimes called itself catsup, so I have to tip my hat to the O.G. French fry friend. And of course, there’s ONE proper brand – Heinz. All others are just pale imitations.

I’m not a big fan of mustard overall, but it has its place sometimes. Potato salad, Cuban sandwiches, deviled eggs, maybe even on watermelon (try it!).

Ranch qualifies as a close second favorite, especially with fries, wings and fried mushrooms. But for downright condimental goodness, I have to go with mayo. On burgers, fries, sandwiches, I’ll reach for the Hellman’s every time. Or Duke’s or even Kraft in a pinch. (but never Miracle Whip!)

Oh boy ... myself and my kids are very saucy. I don't know that I could choose just one … So many situations and so many options. Typically, I am not brand-specific with the majority of the condiments, just that they are present.

I would have to say my favorite condiment overall would have to be ranch. I put it on everything. Pizza with ranch on it would be my ultimate favorite. Lately though, I have been hooked on Kinders teriyaki. It’s a ginger garlic teriyaki blend with sesame seeds in it. It’s really good, especially on chicken dishes.
