Get to Know TJM: Our Favorite Pi Day Pies!

In honor of Pi Day, we asked our TJM folks to name their favorite pi(e). We defined pie somewhat generously, as you’ll see. Here are the ones we like best:

Shannon Moore

I tend to enjoy sweet stuff more than savory so my favorite pie in this moment is blueberry.  Nice cross-hatch pattern on the top, flaky, with a mountain of whipped cream on top.  And warm out of the oven. 

Juan-Marcos Gomez

Personally I love myself some pecan pie.

Matt Fischer

Here is my current list; it's not exhaustive but it's a start. 

Flat Pie - Pizza, any and all of it. [Editor’s Note: With or without pineapple?*]

Dinner Pie - Shepherd's variety.

Desert Dessert Pie - Yes, please, I am not picky (now).  [Editor’s Note: Matt has been known to get desert and dessert mixed up. Full story here.]

When I was a kid, I didn't like pie in its traditional sense. So, I was never eating the pumpkin, apple, or key lime pie that would make the rounds. But the one pie I would eat would be Derby Pie. 

I don't know why this was only made on Thanksgiving in our home, but that's just the way it was. It always reminded me of eating a warm gooey chocolate chip cookie, but with some nuts added in there.  I wouldn't say it's my favorite, but it does come with some core memories.

Pizza Pie is my favorite! My dad has a food truck, Poppy's Dogs, and he has been experimenting with his new pizza oven. Pickle Pizza Pie for the win! Don't knock it until you try it. I was hesitant myself at first. But its super good with the right pickles. [Editor’s Note: Can confirm. It sounds weird, but it really is quite tasty.] 

Rick Cundiff

Having grown up with a grandmother whose love language was food, I am a fan of just about any kind of pie. Apple, raisin, coconut cream, you name it. If I had to choose one, although Mamaw never made it, I’d go with Chocolate French Silk. And just about any pie is better with a scoop of ice cream beside it!

I'm not a big sweets person and generally not a pie person, but I DO like Key Lime Pie.

My FAVORITE pie is whatever my coworkers make. As someone who has already stated that they're not a big sweets person, I am always blown away by our desserts competition we have in the office. There are so many great bakers on our team and I genuinely enjoy when they bring in their homemade desserts - including the various pies that have been brought in. [Editor’s Note: Can confirm. We have some outstanding bakers among us!]

In an informal, highly unscientific poll of our staff, the question of whether pineapple belongs on pizza resulted in a pineapple win by a margin of almost two to one! With 23 votes in, the results were:
