Get to Know TJM: Our Halloween Favorites!

Drac or Frank? Dexter or Lecter? We choose some creepy Halloween favorites!

Rick Cundiff

Monsters and killers and counts with bat wings – these are a few of our favorite things! Since it’s the spooky season, we asked our staff about some of their favorite creepy things. We asked them to consider which they preferred to each of these questions:

  • Classic Monster: Dracula , Frankenstein or Werewolf?
  • Song: Monster Mash (Bobby “ Boris” Pickett) or Dead Man’s Party (Oingo Boingo)?
  • Cannibal: Dexter or Dr. Lecter?
  • Star Wars Villain Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine?
  • Star Trek Villain: Khan or The Borg?

[Editor’s Note: Yes, we’re aware, as our resident “well, actually…” staff member pointed out, that Frankenstein was actually the doctor’s name, not the monster’s. Work with us here, people.]

Shannon Moore

Classic Monster: Dracula- never really a fan of werewolf, like Frankenstein, but like Dracula better.

Song: Monster Mash - super fun song

Serial Killer: Dr. Lecter - never got into Dexter

Star Wars Villain: Darth Vader  - Palpatine freaks me the h*** out

Star Trek Villain: didn't watch much of this

Matt Fischer

I will do my best to elaborate as much as I can but in full honesty, I don't have strong feelings on any of these topics.

Classic Monster: Dracula. Vampires are cooler than the others. Vampires are more scary and been in more media, imho. Vampires, in general, are better represented. More versatile monsters, and appear in better books/video games/movies.

Song: Monster Mash only because I have never heard Dead Man's Party.

Serial Killer: Lecter (admittedly I’m not super familiar with either).

Star Wars Villain: Darth Vader because his suit is pretty cool.

Star Trek Villain: Genghis Khan for sure.  I've never read about “Borg” in any history books. [Editor’s Note: We’re pretty sure you’ve never read about Star Trek supervillain Khan Noonien Singh either.]

Classic Monster: Dracula’s tempting, because he has a certain style. But I have to go with werewolves, because without them, we wouldn’t have Warren Zevon’s timeless anthem “Werewolves of London.”

Song: Gotta go with the classic Monster Mash.

Serial Killer: An easy call. Dr. Lecter by a mile. Understated menace.

Star Wars Villain: While the Emperor is the embodiment of pure evil – in any galaxy – Vader has a nice redemption arc. Vader it is.

Star Trek Villain: Khan (not Genghis, Matt), just for the fact that he was played by Ricardo Montalban, bringing back memories of my youth watching “Fantasy Island” and seeing commercials touting Chryslers with “rich Corinthian leather.”

Jodi McBride

Classic Monster: Dracula!

Song: Monster Mash. They are both pretty good.

Serial Killer: Okay, so, this one gets complicated, and I cannot choose. They are both great and absolutely terrible at the same time. I could honestly do a whole essay on this answer, so I will stop at that.

Star Wars Villain: Darth Vader or Emperor Palpatine?

Surprisingly, I never watched Star Wars

Star Trek Villain: Khan or The Borg?

Also, have never watched Star Trek.

[Editor’s Note: We are amazed at the concept of an adult human being who has seen neither Star Wars nor Star Trek! Not to worry. Working for a company originally named for the Jedi, Jodi will pick up plenty of Star Wars lore.]
