Get to Know TJM: Our Seasonal Song Favorites

Sounds of Seasons!

Rick Cundiff

When it comes to the seasons, we all have our favorites. And so it goes with seasonal songs too. We asked our staff to list their favorite songs of the season for any season EXCEPT Christmas. Here are a few of our favorites.

Shannon Moore:

Well, for my fave holiday coming up:

“Thriller”;  “Monster Mash”;  “Time Warp”

For my other fave season, summer:

Anything Beach Boys;  “Wipe Out”

For the 4th of July:

-Anything Toby Keith, mainly "Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue"

I don’t really know how to answer this question.  We don’t really have “seasons” in Florida, so I don’t have specific playlists for anything other than:

A. Christmas-time

 B. Every other part of the year.

The closest I can say is, I DO tend to enjoy a good “song of the summer.”

Sometimes I agree with the Billboard chart (see 2017’s “Despacito” by Daddy Yankee, 2024’s “A Bar Song” by Shaboozey) and sometimes I just make up my own (2023’s “Texas” by BigXThaPlug. Also 2023’s “It’s Getting Hot” by NLE Choppa).

Other than that, I have different playlists for different moods -so “seasons” of my day or life maybe?

For summer, I’ve gotta agree with Shannon on anything by the Beach Boys, but especially the “surf” songs – “Surfin’ Safari,” “Surfin’ USA,” etc.

Winter’s a toss-up between “Hazy Shade of Winter” by Simon and Garfunkel (or the Bangles) and “California Dreamin’” by the Mamas and the Papas.

Spring? Has to be “Here Comes the Sun” by the Beatles. And autumn is for “September” by Earth, Wind and Fire, mainly because I have a friend whose birthday falls on the 21st.

Oh, and maybe "Wannabe" for Pumpkin Spice season. Which one was she again?

Courtney Cole

Songs for seasons ….. I never really thought about that. To be honest, I think I am more of a smells/scents for seasons person. Haha. Although I think my song selections sway more into upbeat, happy, poppy stuff during the summer. Especially because we are usually jamming out by the pool or on the boat. But, if I were to go through my Spotify right now most of it is heavily in the rap/hip hop genre.
