Over July 20-27, the Latin America region of the Little League World Series held a tournament to decide the team who would represent the region. A total of seven teams played in the tournament, with one team crowned the champion.

The teams played a total of 22 games, including the championship game. The final game came down to the Aguadulce Cabezera team from Panama and the San Francisco team from Venezuela. Panama came out on top, 6-2, and advances to the 2013 Little League World Series.

Panama didn’t lose a single game during the entire tournament. Panama won last year’s regional tournament, and placed 4th overall in the Series. Since 2001, either Panama or Venezuela has represented the Latin America region. Panama has been to the Series a total of seven times, but has never taken the title. The highest they have finished is 2nd place in 1993.

This leaves Canada as the only region in the International bracket not to have a regional champion. The Canadian tournament begins on August 2nd, the same day the United States regions begin their tournaments. Once all of the regional tournaments are complete, the 2013 Little League World Series begins on August 15th, in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.

On Monday, July 29th, the Little League organization announced extra security precautions that will be in place for the Series. Extra security cameras throughout the complex and heightened restrictions to the area where the teams are housed are just a few examples of the measures the Little League organization has in place. Officials say the impact on the Series experience will be minimal, but they just wanted attendees to be aware of the security changes.
